CYBER CROOKS ATTACKING MOBILE PHONES

CYBER CROOKS ATTACKING MOBILE PHONES
Previously, computer was the only medium to browse the Internet.  Cyber Attackers or Cyber Criminals are nowadays focusing on mobile phones because in India more than 63% mobile users access the Internet, World Wide Web, and Social Networking Sites via their mobile phones or handsets being cheaper kind of tools that is available to them. Mobile nets are cheaper than the normal broadband, cable net.  With Mobile Phones being used in a big way to go online, it has become vulnerable too.
It is observed at workshop on “Handling Cybercrimes: Investigations and Judgment” organized by the Maharashtra State Govt., India, by Cyber Law Consultant that “if there is some obscene content damaging someone’s reputation, it takes a long time to get the website blocked. If it is an issue of National Security, the Computer Emergency Response Team may block it instantly, but if someone maligned someone’s reputation online, the procedure is not so simple.”
Normally the practice adopted here is, when an FIR is registered in such cases, it is tried by the courts, whereas in cases where damages are claimed, the adjudicating officer hears the matter. It is also added in this workshop that in cases where damages can be sought in addition to registering an offence, the police should inform the victim that they can also approach the adjudicating officer and present their case.
MEASURES SUGGESTED BY THE PANELLIST
1)      Vacancies are to be filled up in Cyber Appellate Section.
2)      Dedicated Cyber Courts are to be set up.
3)      Allow people to depose through video-conferencing.
4)      Concern Police Officers/Policemen are to be trained in Cyber Crimes.

5)      Informing victims about cases in which they can claim damages.
